Vernon Heroes Amazing Race Supports VJH Cancer Centre Comfort Fund

Thank you to the organizers, sponsors, volunteers, participants and partners of Vernon Heroes Amazing Race for their commitment to helping our friends, neighbours, co-workers and family members who are coping with cancer.The event took place May 26, raising $5,410.56 towards the Cancer Centre Patient Comfort Fund at VJH.The Comfort Fund was established in 2003 to support the well-being of cancer patients receiving treatment at the Centre.A cancer diagnosis affects many aspects of a person’s well-being - physically, emotionally, and many times, financially.The Comfort Fund is designed to alleviate the burden of cancer by providing financial assistance for patients who have financial barriers and hardships due to cancer diagnosis and treatment.• Some of the comforts provided are:o paying for anti-nausea drugso parking costso providing home supporto ensuring access to the cancer relaxation programo providing educational materialsThe Comfort Fund is administered by the Cancer Centre Social Worker and Oncologists, to ensure funds are appropriately disbursed.Nearly 400 new patients visit the Cancer Centre each year, and more than 5,200 patients require follow-up visits annually.
