The Gift of Excellence: Essential Biomed Equipment

Thanks to a community member who holds a strong interest in engineering, the Biomed team has received three new pieces of equipment integral to the function of the department. A defibrillator tester used in the calibration of defibrillators and pacemakers. An x-ray dosimeter which ensures the radiation outputs of x-ray systems are correct within specified ranges. And an ultrasound phantom (essentially a dummy torso in a box). These three pieces of equipment enable the BioMed maintenance staff to fault-find problems and check calibrations on ultrasound imaging equipment.

This significant acquisition assists the team in ensuring that the equipment used to diagnose, treat, and monitor patients’ medical conditions are safe and functional, improving the quality and effectiveness of patient care within the hospital.
