SilverStar’s Emergency Services Day raises $15,000 for VJH Foundation
SilverStar’s Emergency Services Day fundraiser for the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation was a huge success, raising $15,000 for the hospital’s Emergency Department on Saturday, February 20.Funds were raised through SilverStar’s donation of $20 from every lift ticket sold on the day of the event to the Foundation. The fundraiser drew large crowds who came to watch demonstrations by nine local emergency services teams taking place through the day.“Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation was delighted to once again have partnered with Silver Star Mountain Resort,” said Sue Beaudry, director of development for the VJH Foundation. “The Emergency Services Day was another example of how the resort reaches out to the community and its guests, while financially supporting our Hospital."
"We'd like to thank SilverStar staff and all of the Emergency Service groups who took part in making this an exciting and informative day."
Teams who volunteered their time and effort putting on live showcases of their skills and equipment through the day included Vernon Search and Rescue (VASR), the RCMP police dog and handler, SilverStar Patrol, the Justice Institute of BC, and local firefighters.A number of the demonstrations like the VASR heli-winch rescue and the RCMP dog handler demo were so popular that volunteers gave encore presentations later in the day."A big thanks goes out to all the Emergency Service volunteers who gave their time to make the day so successful," said Brad Baker, SilverStar's director of operations. "The ability to showcase the skills and equipment that these highly trained groups possess and deliver to those in need of help is truly amazing, and will for sure make this an annual event going forward."
