SilverStar Mountain Resort’s Emergency Services Day Raises $13,000 for VJH Foundation
SilverStar Mountain Resort’s 2nd Annual Emergency Services Day fundraiser for Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation was a tremendous success, raising $13,000 for the hospital’s Emergency Department on Saturday, January 21.
“Last year, there were more than 44,000 emergency room visits at VJH,” said Sue Beaudry, VJH Foundation Director of Development. “The dedication from SilverStar Mountain Resort and the Emergency Service groups who took part in this event contributes significantly to the well-being of our community members in need of urgent medical care.”
Funds were raised through SilverStar’s donation of $20 from every lift ticket sold on the day of the event. Since 2013, SilverStar’s event initiatives have raised $66,200.
“The generous support from SilverStar has helped furnish and equip the 6th and 7th floor of Polson Tower, as well as purchase much-needed equipment for the Emergency Department,” said Beaudry.
Emergency Service Day crowds gathered at the mountain to watch exciting demonstrations from nine local emergency services teams taking place through the day. From a heli-winch rescue to avalanche search techniques, teams demonstrated the skills and equipment brought into action to assist those in need.
“A big thanks goes out to all the Emergency Service volunteers who gave their time to make the day so successful,” said Brad Baker, SilverStar’s director of operations. “The ability to showcase the skills and equipment that these highly trained groups possess and deliver to those in need of help is truly amazing, and will for sure make this an annual event going forward.”
