Silver Star Students Raise Funds for Digital Mammography

It all started with a Rainbow Loom kit and a group of industrious girls from Silver Star Elementary School.Rainbow Loom aficionados Lina and Ashley, along with their friends, Lauren, Lucy and Paige decided to put their talents to good use, weaving colourful little rubber bands into bracelets, rings and pencil grips. The girls crafted more than 100 items to sell at a school fundraiser for the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation.“Lina was so determined,” says her mother, Susan Guttridge, “she stayed up late wearing her lighted headband, busily turning out dozens of different patterns and items.”Selling the items at an average of 25 cents apiece, the girls raised $57.35 towards the VJH Foundation’s ‘Take a Picture’ Campaign. Funds will be used towards the purchase of a digital mammography unit at VJH.Way to go girls! And a great big thanks to everyone at Silver Star Elementary for taking part!!
