Light A Bulb raises over $350,000

Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation is thrilled to announce that wehave raised $350,284 through our 2018 Light A Bulb Campaign, far exceeding ourgoal of $275,000. This total marks the highest amount raised in the 31 yearhistory of the Light A Bulb campaign.  

“We are completely blown away by the response this year and want tosincerely thank each and every one who contributed to Light A Bulb,” says KevinArbuckle, 2018 Light A Bulb Campaign Chair. “You have brought us closer tocompleting this important campaign and improving timely access to surgery forthousands of people throughout the North Okanagan. Through your generosity, wewill be able to purchase two new anaesthetic machines. This is a majoraccomplishment.”

Funds raised through the 2018 Light A Bulb Campaign are going towardsthe purchase of new state-of-the-art anaesthesia machines at Vernon JubileeHospital. This is a part of VJH Foundation’s larger campaign, OPERATION:Surgical Care for Life, which is raising $3.6 million to equip an additionaloperating room, purchase six anaesthetic machines, and a new urology table withreal-time imaging.

Afterexceeding our Light A Bulb fundraising goal, we will be able to buy TWO of the sixneeded anaesthetic machines, bringing us closer to our total campaign goal.

OPERATION: Surgical Care for Life will give VJH surgeons the abilityto perform more surgeries, ultimately reducing wait times and improving patientoutcomes so our loved ones can get on the road to recovery much sooner.

The Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation offers our deepest appreciationto all of the individuals, businesses, and organizations that generouslysupported the 31st annual Light A Bulb Campaign.

Light a Bulb began 31 years agowhen VJH Board member, Daphne Thuillier, spearheaded a campaign to raise fundsfor a heart monitoring system for the ICU and Emergency Department at VernonJubilee Hospital.  Part of the fundraisingcampaign included a ‘Light A Bulb’ promotion, where a gift of $20 would light abulb on a tree outside the hospital.

Sincethen, Light A Bulb has raised more than $5 million through community donationsto support health care in the North Okanagan.
