Do it for Dad Raised $20,000!

The 17th Annual Do it For Dad Run & Walk presented by Interior Savings took place Fathers’ Day, Sunday, June 19th, 2016 at Coldstream Ranch.  Funds will help purchase scopes for urologists at VJH to diagnose and treat prostate cancer, provide free PSA testing for men in the North Okanagan and purchase educational materials for the Vernon Prostate Cancer Support & Awareness Group.

Every Father’s Day since 2003, VJH Foundation and the Vernon Prostate Cancer Support & Awareness Group have hosted the run which has raised a total of $322,222.00 for prostate cancer awareness, testing and treatment.

The event was initiated by Dr. April Sanders, who continues to be involved as the honorary chairperson.  All funds raised stay locally, with this year’s proceeds being used to help purchase a Ureteroscope  used to treat prostate cancer at Vernon Jubilee Hospital, and to provide free PSA testing for men in our community.

      Prostate cancer is the most common cancer among Canadian men (excluding non-melanoma skin cancers).

It is the 3rd leading cause of death from cancer in men in Canada.

About 1 in 7 Canadian men is expected to develop prostate cancer during his lifetime and 1 in 28 will die from it.

On average, 65 Canadian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer every day.

The Do It For Dad Run and Walk presented by Interior Savings is a family event, and a rare opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Coldstream Ranch.

Entertainment includes face painting by Christine Turpin, free balloons, Kalamalka Caring Klowns and the Kalamalka Highlanders Pipe Band.


The Coldstream Fire Department signals the start of the race with their engine siren, and awards are given to the team & individual that raises the most money. There prizes for top finishers, most money raised by an individual and team, plus draw prizes.
