Emergency Services Day at SilverStar to Benefit VJH Foundation
Nine of the Vernon region’s most skilled Emergency Services teams will present thrilling demonstrations and showcases at SilverStar Mountain Resort’s first Emergency Services Day benefitting Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation (VJHF) on Saturday, February 20.
The all-day event honours first responders and everyone who steps up to help people in crisis situations. From first aid basics to avalanche rescue, the event features first-hand the skills and equipment local Emergency Services teams bring into action to assist those in need.
Activities include a trauma scenario enacted by the Justice Institute of B.C. team and Shaw Okanagan’s Jamie Ross being extricated from a car by the local fire department.
Emergency Services team demonstrations are scheduled every half hour through the day from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Vernon Search and Rescue will start the excitement with a snow shelter demonstration at 9 a.m. and close the day with a heli winch rescue at 3 p.m.
There will also be information booths in the village for anyone interested in search and rescue to find out more about what emergency services teams do and the equipment they use in their work.
Emergency Services Day in support of VJH Foundation is an evolution of SilverStar’s annual fundraising efforts for the local charity. On February 20, SilverStar will be donating $20 from every full-day alpine lift ticket sold to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation.
