Charity Classic a Great Success
Cliff Oughtred and his Organizing Committee put on yet another amazing golf tournament at Predator Ridge on Sunday. This year’s event was sold out by April 1st. Regardless of the weather, the132 golfers enjoyed an event packed day. $175,000 net was raised at this one day event. Campaign Co-Chair, Dr. Chris Cunningham explained that the proceeds of the 5th Annual Charity Classic Golf Tournament would purchase much needed medical equipment for the final two floors of Polson Tower at Vernon Jubilee Hospital. This remarkable result is thanks to the golfers, donors and sponsors. Major donations and sponsorships received from Title sponsor, TELUS, Predator Ridge, RBC Dominion Security and Kal Tire which helped make this event “the” golf tournament to attend in the North Okanagan.
The tournament was run with a twist. The format was a Vegas Scramble and holes could be won or lost by the roll of the dice. Rain or shine it is always a fun game format! The Corporate Team Challenge Winner was a combined team of Dan Gaudet and Scott Moffat from Vernon Seed Orchard and Steve Pelke and David Arndt from Universal Packaging. Ladies’ longest drive went to AJ Eathorne, who was ineligible to win, but Mary O’Grady willing accepted the prize, as well as a prize for Ladies Closest to the Pin.
Men’s longest drive went to Malcolm MacPherson, and Men’s KP went to Bruce Shepherd. Darrel Oshiro sunk the longest putt, while Chris Martin and Audrey Lammle won closet to the line honours. On behalf of Predator Ridge, Brad Pelletier and AJ Eathorne handed out 1 dozen new Taylormade Jetspeed Drivers, 1 dozen Taylormade Jetspeed Fairway Woods and 1 dozen Adidas Shirts and sleeves of balls to lucky teams who were drawn randomly from three flights of golfers.
Hole sponsors brought imagination to the course in an attempt to win votes from the golfers. From Mardi Gras to calf roping there was no shortage of fun, food or beverage. But the 2014 Hole Sponsor award went to the Falcon Point residents and Olive Us.
Golfers also had an opportunity to visit the TELUS Innovations Bus. They saw the latest in technology and learned about business solutions from knowledgeable TELUS staff.
As well, the Scenic Sip group of Wineries from Lake Country offered wine tastings at the 19th hole.
Local Auctioneer, Don Dodds, encouraged participants to open their wallets in support of the cause. The 13 items auctioned off resulted in $19,200.00.
Wine donated by Arrow Leaf, Ex Nihilio Gray Monk, Intrigue and 50th Parallel was served with the delicious meal served in the Ridge Restaurant.
It was a great day for everyone. This was thanks to the generosity of the Title sponsor TELUS, and Venue sponsor Predator Ridge, Wayside, Silver Star, Black & McDonald, Nixon Wenger, Stutters Disaster Kleenup, Kal Tire, Capri Insurance, RBC Dominion Securities, Scenic Sip and Okanagan Spring Brewery, our hole sponsors, auction donors, volunteers and most importantly the golfers.
